Having homegrown strawberries right in your own back yard is a good thing. However, strawberries tend to grow all over the place and can be very messy. So planting and growing strawberries in a box is one way to have this great fruit without taking up the entire neighborhood.

Step 1
Locate and measure the area where you'd like to build your box. Strawberries do well in full sun, so find a sunny spot.

Step 2
Consider building the box up against an outside wall or shed. This will give it an out of the way look and not take up too much yard space.

Step 3
Purchase wide boards for the sides of the box. Either 4 x 6 or 4 x 8 planks work well.

Step 4
Cut the planks the appropriate length for your area. Consider making the box as long as the planks you have to save time.

Step 5

Position 4 x 4 posts in the four corners of the box. Cut the posts to the height you want the box to be. Make it high enough so that weeding and picking strawberries is easy on your back.

Step 6
Nail the planks into the posts at the corners three or four high depending on the box height. A nice size box is 3 feet wide, 6 feet long and 3 feet deep. This gives the strawberries plenty of room to spread.

Step 7
Finish the box with planks laid flat to make a nice edge and rim, mitering the corners and securing to the top of the box. This will keep dirt from washing over the sides when it rains.
