Strawberry Shortcake started her now long standing career as an idea for a Hallmark card, well several Hallmark cards. And when this character's cutesy image became so popular cards were made of her friends, Apple Dumpling, Blueberry Pie, Lemon Chiffon and lots of other bakery themed characters. From there Strawberry Shortcake got her own line of merchandise and by the mid-80s little girls everywhere started clamoring after Strawberry Shortcake and friends dolls.
